James O'Hanlon

James is a scientist turned illustrator and story teller. He has a passion for the fantastical and otherworldly, and his background in zoology and science education make him well suited to illustration projects featuring native Australian animals, STEM subjects, and educational storytelling. His first illustrated book Tilly the Tardigrade, written by Dr Deborah Bower (University of New England), introduces young readers to animals of Australia’s wetlands and how they survive droughts. He works primarily in ink, watercolour and digital media, and loves a good pun. Additionally, he has been commissioned to create concept art, public art pieces and murals, art exhibitions, and playful mascots for business logos. He is looking forward to working on more children’s books and loves a good challenge.
