Jenny Hale

Growing up, Jenny was forever modeling for her artist brother or else entering drawing competitions. Her publishing history began at age 6, with a drawing of a mermaid in the centre section (children’s comic pages) of the Sydney Sun-Herald. She scored a merit certificate and $5! Her adult career began as an illustrator and designer in advertising, but drawing stories for kids is much more fun. With 20 international titles, Jenny’s picture books have been translated into languages as diverse as Spanish, Thai and Finnish. Her publishers include Little Hare (Hardie Grant Egmont) and Lothian (Hachette). Her style shown here is classical, influenced by Arthur Rackham and Brian Froud. For her styles for younger children she uses her alias of Gene Fordham.
