Born in Hong Kong, Wai has lived in Melbourne, Australia since the age of three. As a teenager, she dreamt of becoming a fashion designer, she drew endlessly, and honed her understanding of clothing on the female form.
This passion for drawing led Wai to a career in illustration instead. She has worked across all industries, but most extensively in fashion and beauty, for magazines, packaging, books and advertising.
Wai’s illustrations always begin as pencil sketches on cartridge paper. She likes to listen to Podcasts as she works, Hidden Brain being one of her favourites. Wai refines each sketch meticulously, to closely reflect the final illustration.
She then uses her Mac much like a paint medium, using only brushes for shading to finish her illustrations, giving her work a unique hand finished look.
Wai’s other passions in life are her husband, her two boys, and exploring the world with her family.
