Dean is an award winning designer and illustrator. His early work consisted of ducks and clowns, drawn on bits of old wood in the family garage, before graduating to more sophisticated themes such as robots and spaceships. His work ranges from highly detailed illustration, concept development, infographics, book covers, to lavishly illustrated picture books. His work has appeared in Communication Arts Annuals, 3×3 Illustration Annuals and The Australian & New Zealand Illustration Awards. He was a speaker at the International AGIdeas Design Forum in 2011 and contributes to group exhibitions for the MOSS deck art show. Books include ‘I got a Rocket!’ adapted as an Emmy award winning animated series. (written by Matt Zurbo); ‘Ten Little Elvi’ for Penguin Random House US; and his own ‘The Search for Bigfoot Bradley’ for Windy Hollow.
