Simon O’Carrigan is an illustrator from Melbourne, known for his loose and confident ink drawings. His work hums with energy and movement: a result of his ongoing interest in hand-drawn animation and eclectic music.
Simon works with many mediums but ink is his enduring favourite. He regularly teaches beginner classes in ink sketching. His illustrations and animations, even when finished digitally, retain a hand-made feel, and bold use of white space.
In 2017, he began an award mentorship through the ASA, and was also hired to illustrate his first picture book by Ford Street Publishing. He is currently working on a war themed picture book for Scholastic.
Simon has staged over thirty exhibitions since 2006; he’s won grants from The City of Melbourne, City of Yarra, and NAVA; and judged the Melbourne International Animation Festival.
Simon’s clients have included Scholastic Australia, Ford Street Publishing, Oh Yeah Wow, Plot Media, James Norton Design, 100 Story Building, School Magazine, City of Yarra.
