Simon O’Carrigan works with ink, watercolour, and sometimes Photoshop. His illustrations are sketchy and loose – just like real life. He is drawn to projects that explore the tensions in life, bringing empathy to heavy subject matter, while also celebrating the world we live in and the people we share it with. He has illustrated a broad variety of commercial and governmental projects, a variety of articles and stories for magazines and anthologies, and two picture books. He is currently working on his next book for Scholastic Australia. He has exhibited extensively and received grants and awards from a variety of industry groups and government arts programs. He teaches workshops in sketching with ink, tutors individual students, and works on private commissions. —November 2020
